With Inter Miami players back at the Club’s facilities participating in voluntary preseason training sessions, SuperDraft pick Josh Penn is getting his first taste of life in MLS. The rookie winger, who was selected in the first round of the SuperDraft in January, is enjoying the experience thus far.
“It’s been really fun. It’s everything I could ask for. Obviously it’s the highest level I’ve played at but I’ve felt that I’ve been able to adjust pretty quickly,” said Penn. “It’s just really enjoyable to be here. The level is high, everyone is excited to be here, the training quality is very high. It’s been really exciting and a joy so far.”
Penn has already started to forge bonds with his teammates in the brief time they’ve all been together at Inter Miami CF Training Center, helping build the culture of hard work that will be essential for the team.
“Personality wise, everyone is very nice, they’re encouraging, they’ll get on you when they need to, but most of the time we’re just going to try to build each other up. It’s exciting. It’s a good culture because everyone wants to work hard here.”
“The early work we’re getting in is huge. Obviously I wasn’t here last year and there’s quite a few new faces. So, putting in the work and getting better is important, but also just coming together as a team early on is going to help us in the long run. We still don’t have a ton of time for preseason, the season will be here before you know it so getting any extra time together that we can will really pay dividends in the end.”
According to Penn, one of the major perks of joining the Club has been the opportunity to train at what he believes are the best facilities in the country.
“It’s unbelievable. You look at any facility in the U.S., this is probably the top one in my opinion. Coming to such a big Club with these facilities is amazing, it’s everything you could ask for as a professional. Everything you need they have for you, it’s pretty awesome.”
“The facilities are probably what has surprised me the most. I knew it was going to be nice, but actually getting in here and seeing everything we have access to, it’s pretty amazing. You can’t complain at all because everything you need is in this building and they treat us right.”
With his first few MLS training sessions officially under his belt, Penn is now looking ahead to his first taste of game action with the Club.
“I’m just excited to start playing. Our first preseason game will be exciting. Once we’re able to actually play together, it’ll be something I’m really looking forward to.”
