On This Day: Inter Miami Signs Rodolfo Pizarro

A year ago on this day, Feb. 17, Inter Miami signed its No. 10, Rodolfo Pizarro. The Mexican international joined the Club as its second Designated Player, becoming one of the cornerstones of our young franchise.

To celebrate the occasion, let’s relive some historic firsts in Club history brought to us by Pizarro:

First No. 10

Upon signing for the Club, Pizarro also became the first player in its history to don the iconic No. 10 jersey.

First Goal in First Official Friendly

Pizarro appeared in the Club’s first preseason match at the Suncoast Invitational in St. Petersburg, Fla., taking on the Philadelphia Union. He came on as a substitute in the match and scored the Club’s first goal just two minutes after coming on. To make it more impressive, Pizarro was celebrating his birthday on the day.

First Kick

The Mexican international stood over the ball and delivered the first official kick in Club history, kicking off the team's debut MLS match on the road against LAFC. Pizarro started the match and helped the team perform valiantly against the 2019 Supporters' Shield champions at Banc of California Stadium.

First MLS Goal

Pizarro continued his run of firsts with the Club into the regular season, once again notching a historic goal. This time, he scored the Club’s first official goal in its second MLS match, a trip to Audi Field against D.C. United. Pizarro made a long run without the ball towards the back post, where he met a pass from Lewis Morgan and smashed a shot into the back of the net and celebrated by giving fans their first glimpse of his trademark Joker celebration.

First Win at Inter Miami CF Stadium

The creative midfielder continued to make his presence felt as the season transitioned through its different phases, including the return to local markets when the Club was finally able to play its first match at Inter Miami CF Stadium. Pizarro marked the occasion with a standout performance, opening the match with an assist for Julián Carranza’s first goal and capping the night with a victory-sealing goal and memorable celebration: posing with a cardboard cutout of a fan in the stands.
