Neville on Gregore: “He wants to be the best midfield player in the league”

Following his Inter Miami debut against LA Galaxy on Sunday, midfielder Gregore de Magalhães da Silva, or Gregore for short, shared his thoughts on the teams’ performance and attitude toward this season.

“I was very impressed with the intensity of the game and the intensity of the players. I also think that the team has been having a great attitude toward the season… I have very positive thoughts on what is to come,” said Gregore.

Head coach Phil Neville was also quick to praise Gregore’s performance after the LA Galaxy match.

“I thought he was outstanding against the Galaxy. When you look to what I like to see in players, he plays with real personality (and) lives his life with personality,” said Neville.

Gregore also discussed how he plans to build and improve his leadership qualities within the team as well as his mentality throughout the campaign.

“It’s a natural process, I build my leadership working day by day. Here there are already a lot of positive leaders. Leadership is something that you create and you build with everything that you do day-by-day.

“My mentality is always about constant evolution and getting better; learning from everybody, learning from the younger players, learning from the older players, learning from the coaching staff, and learning from the league. I always have in my mind to evolve, get better and work hard for the team.”

Neville reinforced this by highlighting Gregore’s personality, ambition, and professionalism the moment that he contacted him.

“When I spoke to Gregore, the first thing that I spoke about him was his personality; his personality to want to improve, his personality to want to get better, his personality and character to want to come to Inter Miami and not just be average, not just to get into the starting XI. He wants to be an MVP, he wants to be the best midfield player in the league and that straight away was more important than any training footage that I saw. Anything that I have seen or spoken about him ever since, he has been absolutely top drawer,” concluded Neville.
