It was all Inter Miami in the match’s opening moments as the team pressed with energy from the opening kick. In the second minute, Lewis Morgan won the ball, squared a pass to Jay Chapman in the box, who turned and fired a shot, drawing a diving save.
Inter Miami continued to push in the following moments, creating transition opportunities by winning the ball with aggressive pressing. In the 23rd minute, Christian Makoun won the ball high up the field, knocking the ball to Brek Shea at the top of the box, whose powerful shot went wide.
The hosts continued to threaten for the remainder of the half, notably creating transition opportunities with runs from Morgan and Julián Carranza with Chapman initiating several opportunities with his passing. The match, however, remained scoreless at halftime.

Inter Miami made a pair of changes in the 61st minute, bringing on Rodolfo Pizarro and Gonzalo Higuaín for Shea and Carranza respectively. The changes quickly proved fruitful, with Higuaín opening the scoring in the 67th minute; Higuaín cut in from the left, drove past defenders and fired a powerful shot from long range into the bottom corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Higuaín’s fifth of the season, the most on the team, while the assist was Chapman’s first of the campaign.
