It was a close first half with few chances in attack for both sides. Inter Miami’s most dangerous opportunity came in the 39th minute. Scottish winger Lewis Morgan delivered a through ball for striker Gonzalo Higuaín on the right wing, who slotted in a low cross for his brother Federico Higuaín inside the box. Federico Higuaín’s right footed shot was just wide of the goal.
Despite several attempts from the hosts in the final stages of the first 45 minutes, the match went into halftime scoreless.
The visitors began the second half making two changes, with Figal replacing Leandro González Pirez in defense and forward Robinson coming on for Brek Shea.
A few minutes later, Inter Miami goalkeeper John McCarthy was called into action; Robert Beric received the ball from Fabian Herbers inside the box before unleashing a left-footed shot that was saved by McCarthy in the center of the goal.
Inter Miami made another substitution in the 54th minute, with forward Julián Carranza, who was celebrating his 21st birthday, taking the place of Federico Higuaín on the pitch.
McCarthy made another key save when Chicago threatened his goal in the 61st minute; Beric once again found space and struck a powerful shot in the goalkeeper's direction, forcing a diving save to keep the visitors afloat.
