Inter Miami goalkeeper John McCarthy is currently spending his days at home practicing social distancing during the ongoing MLS hiatus. Luckily for the 27-year-old Philadelphia native, that means he has extra quality time on hand to spend with his best friend, Brody. Like many others around the globe, though, McCarthy’s best friend isn’t another person; his best friend is a dog, with Brody being his loyal companion for several years.
“I got him way back when in 2015 and ever since then he’s been my boy. Brody is special to me because he’s my best friend, he’s loyal, he’s loving,” said McCarthy. “Brody is different from most dogs because he’s my dog, he can do a lot of tricks and he sleeps under the covers in bed like he’s a human.”
Brody is thoroughly enjoying the sudden shift in the daily routine as he’s been able to spend every day at home with McCarthy rather than pacing around for hours while waiting for him to return from training. With more time available for leisure activities, McCarthy is pleased about spending time doing what he likes the most alongside his furry friend as well.
“My favorite things to do with Brody are going on long walks and playing fetch with him,” he explained.
Now, having settled into their new surroundings in South Florida after McCarthy signed for the Club in December 2019, the Inter Miami goalkeeper and Brody patiently await the return of league play in MLS and soccer leagues worldwide so that they can once again enjoy all the action of the world’s game.
