Head coach Phil Neville heaped praise on the second-half substitute, noting that his performance, for which he was named Heineken Man of the Match, was crucial for the team as it claimed three points.
“I think he brings calmness to training, calmness to the dressing room, calmness to Gonzalo, calmness to the whole team. He comes on, and when everyone else is running around at 100 miles an hour, he seems to flow into the game, gives the team confidence and composure,” said Neville. “His attitude, his attitude to work every single day - he cannot get enough training ground - I think he’s been really good. What he brought us today, you think about the first goal, the quality of you think about the chance he had last week when he’s delivering from the same box. He brings quality to the team.”
Federico also expressed how proud he was of sharing such an achievement with his brother, noting that it isn’t just a gain for his family but for the whole team as well.
“It feels great you know, and not only because he is my brother because when I speak about Gonzalo, I speak about him in the facility as my teammate. It is a pleasure with him and the other guys on the roster,” he expressed.
The midfielder also spoke about his mindset when his brother Gonzalo tied the match with his goal against the Union.
“As a number 10, I always like to provide for my forwards or my wingers, in this case when Gonzalo tied the game it was really important for us. It gave us confidence to keep battling and pushing which is what happened in the second goal.”
