As Inter Miami carries on with its preparations and its second MLS campaign edges closer, the First Team squad continues adapting to life under new head coach Phil Neville. For midfielder Jay Chapman, preseason training with a new approach has been refreshing for the boys.
“It’s been fantastic so far. The guys are feeling really good and the team is looking sharp already,” said Chapman. “We’ve all bought into the way Phil has approached things, which has been really good.”
“Phil is very knowledgeable about the game and as a coach, but he’s also a really good person. When someone is a really good person, it’s really easy to learn from them because you care about how they want to do things. It’s been really good so far and I think a lot of the guys have really taken to that. There’s a new kind of spirit within the group which is really exciting,” he added.
Chapman also went more into detail about what is expected from the midfield unit as the team seeks to turn possession into a key weapon for Inter Miami.
“Phil is putting a lot of good pressure on us. He’s holding us to a high standard because he knows that we’re capable of being those players that can really connect and play at a high level. He’s stressed that it's up to us to be that link between the back four and the forwards, he’s emphasized getting midfielders on the ball…We’ve been emphasizing how good we are with the ball and how we are going to do things, the sharpness in our movements and how we are going to set up tactically to break teams down.”
Lastly, the Canadian midfielder showcased his enthusiasm to play alongside his teammates and bring joy to the Club’s fanbase with the team’s style of play throughout the campaign.
“We’re going to be a fun team to watch, we have some young guys coming in, we have some good veterans that are here and some guys that are coming into their prime like myself that have been around the league. We’re going to be a much harder team to beat and we’re also going to be much more dangerous this year in terms of how we attack and how we are set up.”
