Azcona: “I keep myself hungry because I always want to be the best I can be”

Inter Miami recently announced the signings of two more Homegrown players – Edison Azcona and Ian Fray – from the Inter Miami CF Academy presented by Baptist Health. The pair became the second and third players signed to the First Team from the Academy after the December addition of Felipe Valencia.

Azcona: “I keep myself hungry because I always want to be the best I can be”

For Azcona, the motivation to reach this level was clear. The young winger dedicates himself to his family on and off the field, working hard to do the best he can for them.

“It took a lot of hard work, long nights and early mornings working hard, a lot of support from my parents and my family. They motivate me to keep going,” said Azcona. “I keep myself hungry because I always want to be the best I can be. My family motivates me a lot too because I want to do the best I can for them. They’ve always taken care of me and I want to be able to take care of them.”

For fans hoping to get acquainted with his abilities, Azcona described his play style that brought him success at the Academy and USL League One levels.

“I’m a quick, technical player and I work hard on both sides of the field,” said Azcona, who registered three goals and three assists for Fort Lauderdale CF in 2020 – putting him in the top two in both categories for the team – and led the team in tackles.

Azcona has focused on development in his time with the Club, making use of the professional environment at his disposal.

“These facilities and coaches are world class. They motivate me and push me every day,” said Azcona. “Everything that we’re provided with helps me as a player.”

With a new challenge ahead, the young winger continues to work on his game.

“It’s going to be more intense and the play is much faster. I’m going to do my best to get used to it right away and try to adjust.”
